Travel Guide

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain and potential floods across 43 provinces on Friday, June 26, 2026. This weather pattern stems from a moderate southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Thailand, coupled with a low-pressure cell situated over upper Vietnam. British residents across the country should note these forecasts.

Rainfall Outlook

Bangkok and its surrounding areas face a 60 per cent chance of thundershowers and isolated heavy rain, increasing the risk of localised flooding in the capital. The Central region, including provinces like Kanchanaburi and Nakhon Pathom, is also predicted to experience significant rainfall, with a similar 60 per cent chance of downpours. Eastern provinces, such as Rayong and Chanthaburi, share this forecast for heavy rain. On the South’s West Coast, particularly Ranong, Phangnga, and Phuket, a 60 per cent likelihood of thundershowers and isolated heavy rain is anticipated. Northern and Northeastern regions are expected to see thundershowers in 30 per cent of their areas.

Coastal Conditions

Sea conditions will be moderate. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are forecast to reach approximately two metres. In the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are predicted to be 1-2 metres high, potentially exceeding two metres during thundershowers. Individuals planning maritime travel or coastal activities, especially around islands, should proceed with caution. All vessels are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas experiencing heavy downpours.

Tropical Storm Mekkhala

Separately, Severe Tropical Storm Mekkhala is expected to move towards the south of Japan between Friday and Saturday. Crucially for those in Thailand, this storm will not enter Thai territory. Its trajectory is not anticipated to affect local weather patterns within the country.

Safety Advice

Residents and travellers in the identified regions are advised to remain alert to the potential dangers from heavy rainfall and accumulated water. Such conditions can lead to localised flooding and disruptions to transport infrastructure. It is prudent to plan essential journeys accordingly and to stay informed via local weather updates from official sources.
