Opened in November 2008, the complex is organised into four distinct quadrants representing the architectural styles, culinary traditions, and artisanal crafts of Thailand's northern, north-eastern, central, and southern provinces.

A network of raised wooden boardwalks connects more than a hundred stilted shops, waterside pavilions, and open-air food stalls, while vendors in traditional wooden rowing skiffs prepare regional dishes along the waterways. Visitors typically spend between two and three hours wandering the shaded walkways, watching live craft demonstrations, and sampling snacks from across the country.

Following repairs after a fire in late 2023, the attraction operates daily with full access across all four regional zones. Positioned roughly 10 kilometres south of central Pattaya, it provides an accessible, walkable introduction to regional Thai culture and food for travellers based in the surrounding resort areas.

The Four Cultural Regions and Experiences

The market is divided into four distinct zones representing Thailand's major geographical regions: the North, Northeast (Isan), Central Plains, and South. Each section incorporates regional architectural styles, traditional crafts, and local cooking styles, connected by a network of raised wooden boardwalks and footbridges.

The Northern zone reflects traditional Lanna architecture, featuring carved teak woodwork, herbal balms, and food vendors serving northern specialities such as khao soi (egg noodle curry). Moving into the North-Eastern (Isan) area, stalls focus on handwoven silk textiles alongside spicy regional staples, including som tum (green papaya salad) and grilled meats. The Central zone displays classic stilted timber houses typical of the Chao Phraya river basin, with waterborne vendors preparing boat noodles, khanom krok (sweet coconut pancakes), and fresh tropical fruit directly from small wooden skiffs. In the Southern section, the focus shifts to batik fabrics, coconut-shell handicrafts, and rich southern seafood curries.

Besides exploring the boardwalks on foot, visitors can hire a manually paddled wooden rowing boat for a 20-minute trip along the waterways. Cultural performances take place across the market throughout the day, including regional folk dances on floating stages and sea boxing (Muay Talay) bouts, where competitors duel on a pole suspended above the water until one falls in.

Pattaya Floating Market is situated along Sukhumvit Road in Na Jomtien, approximately 10 to 12 kilometres south of Central Pattaya and around 5 kilometres south of Jomtien Beach.
