Pranburi Forest Park: Mangrove Boardwalk & Nature

Pranburi Forest Park protects a valuable stretch of coastal mangrove habitat at the mouth of the Pran Buri River in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, roughly 25 kilometres south of Hua Hin. Established in 1982 following a royal initiative by Queen Sirikit, the reserve covers just over three square kilometres of restored wetlands, mixed forest, and pine-fringed shoreline.

Along the route, interpretive signs highlight the botanical adaptations of mangrove species, focusing on the tangled aerial and prop root systems that anchor trees in the shifting mud. Depending on the tide, the mudflats beneath the walkway reveal an active intertidal community. Look out for colourful fiddler crabs scuttling across the silt, mudskippers darting between puddles, and occasional water monitor lizards. A one-way taxi or ride-hailing journey from Hua Hin typically costs between 500 and 700 THB, though negotiating a return fare or arranging a set waiting time with your driver is advisable, as booking transport directly outside the park entrance can involve delays.

Renting a scooter or car provides the greatest flexibility for exploring the coastal area. Budget travellers can catch a regional bus or songthaew south from Hua Hin towards Pran Buri town, then hire a local motorbike taxi or tuk-tuk for the final stretch to the coast.

The forest park is open daily during daylight hours and charges no admission fee. Free parking and basic restrooms are available near the park entrance.
